Actually, it was $44.86 to be exact.

This was back in 2016, when I first began dipping my toes in international waters. I went with one of my close friends who’s birthday is the day after mine.

Let me tell you, the flight was 10 hours straight (at the time, the longest flight I’d been on). It was very comfortable – Delta provided a travel kit that included slippers, a sleep mask, socks, toothbrush and toothpaste and toiletry items. In addition to the meals – bomb!

Fast forward to Tokyo, Japan! It was great but it was freeeeeezing during the whole week we were there in February. Not to mention the 12-hour time difference.

Anyway, I’ll save my Tokyo tales for another post!

Here’s how I was able to fly from Los Angeles, CA to Tokyo, Japan for $50:

1. I applied for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express and received 70,000 bonus Skymiles through Delta – this was a couple months in advance of the trip. All I had to do was spend $3,000 in purchases within 3 months.

2. I subscribed to Delta’s marketing emails and was notified about a sale on flights from LAX to HND. The cost of the flight was less than $500, which enabled me to get the most bang for my buck in miles.

There are plenty of other airlines you can use this same travel hack for, it just depends on your credit.

If you’re interested in applying for a Delta Skymiles credit use my referral link and we can both get bonus miles!
